Makai Tenshou began as a novel by Fuutarou Yamada (山田風太郎).  It was then made into a live-action film and a boys’ comic drawn by Ken Ishikawa (石川賢).  It later became a two-part animated video series, released in the US by ADV Films under the title Ninja Resurrection.  Toba’s version followed all of these, but as far as I know is directly related only to the original book.  There has since been other comic versions drawn by Shinzou Tomi* (とみ新蔵) and Naoko Kugo (九後奈緒子).

Other Works:

Toba’s first comic to be released as a volume was her rendition of Genji Monogatari (源氏物語) by Murasaki Shikibu (紫式部), published by Kadokawa Shoten.  This work was also reprinted as part of NHK Manga de Yomu Koten 3:  Genji Monogatari, Ise Monogatari (NHKまんがで読む古典3 源氏物語・ 伊勢物語), published by Home-Sha, a subsidiary of Shueisha (集英社).  Another early comic was Ryuu to Ken to Mahou (竜と剣と魔法), which appears to be fantasy.  It was published by Gakken (学研) under Nora Comics - Pocke Series.

But Toba draws primarily "boys’ love" titles, for both girls and women.  (While this doesn’t necessarily mean that the stories are not also horror or mystery, it makes it very hard to get any other information about them.  So it is possible that a couple of the following works qualify; please let me know if you have any relevant information!)

From Kadokawa Shoten’s Asuka Comics DX and Asuka Comics CL-DX:

From Ohtoh Shobo (桜桃書房) under Gust Comics:

And finally Hohoemi no Housoku (微笑の法則), from Houbunsha (芳文社) under Hanaoto Comics (花音コミックス).

Toba also had a piece included in Ohta Books (太田出版)’s "cat comic anthology" Neko no O-mimi wa Dou Shite Sankaku? (猫のお耳はどうして三角?).

She has illustrated a number of Natsuki Matsuoka’s novels, including Dai Shichi no Fuuin (第七の封印), Bathroom no Ningyo-hime* (バスルームの人魚姫), and Niji no Kiseki (虹の軌跡), all published by Shogakukan (小学館) under Palette Bunko (パレット文庫).

And Kadokawa Shoten published her illustration book Aqua, also under Asuka Comics DX.
